Built to give homes to refugee families in Portland, Oregon, this 96 unit affordable housing project is scheduled for completion in 2023. We're thankful for our partners Green Light Development for the opportunity to bring more affordable housing to our neighbors in the Northwest.
The 148th Apartments is a 96-unit development with a mix of 1, 2, and 3 bedroom units affordable to renters earning at or below 30% and 50-60% of area median income (AMI). The apartments will serve Portland’s Zomi Community, a predominantly Christian ethnic minority group from Myanmar, Bangladesh, and India. Intense religious persecution in Myanmar has caused the resettlement of many Catholic Zomi to Portland as refugees.
The development will be designed to meet the unique needs of Zomi refugees and in close coordination with members of their community and stakeholders. The building will achieve green building standards comparable to Earth Advantage Gold. Residents will benefit from services provided by Zomi Catholic Community Portland, a refugee-led nonprofit established to support individuals who have faced religious persecution in Myanmar. The planned 1,500 SF community space and outdoor amenities will support resident service delivery and promote community building.
